In the 1950s, the father of modern management Peter Drucker introduced the term Management by Objectives or MBO as a collaborative goal-setting system where clearly defined objectives were agreed upon by both management and employees. In the 1970s, the MBO concept was successfully adopted and implemented at Intel by Andy Grove. John Doerr, ex-Intel and an executive at Kleiner Perkins, in the 1990s, modified the framework and introduced it at Google as Objective and Key Results – OKR.
